Thank You to our Mentor Police Department

April 25, 2022
With love and gratitude, we spent an afternoon last week listening to stories and learning more about our Mentor Police Department. Officers Scott Bell and Tracey Woodward were kind enough to share some untold stories of the MPD as we attentively listened and received the opportunity to ask questions about the Police Department and the city of Mentor that we have always wondered about.

We passed around the handcuffs to see how heavy they were, and one very brave and slightly naughty volunteer tried them on for size! We even heard the sound of the taser and were taught how it works. The officers warned us about how the most common scams work and reminded us never to hand out any private information to someone who calls us on the phone. We learned about the benefits of using a dashcam, how helpful K-9 dogs are, the body language of those who are guilty or hiding something, what makes up the 25 pounds of equipment the officers regularly wear, and finally, how rewarding this profession has been for them.

In addition, we learned the population of Mentor is almost 50,000 and were reminded how much our city has developed from the time when Mentor Mall used to be rose orchards! To give thanks to these officers for visiting, we decided to make them taco dip! Residents from our sister facility, Mentor Ridge, also contributed by putting together a box of wonderful treats as a special thank you. We also presented a thank you poem to the officers, which they couldn’t wait to hang on display at the station. We took turns reading aloud this special poem created just for them, and a few tears of gratitude were shed.

It was a beautifully memorable day as random acts of kindness were shared from various generations and communities. We were reminded that we are all connected. The most important lesson, however, was that no matter how old we are or how challenging our bodies have become, we can always share wisdom, lovingly listen, and make a positive difference in the lives of others simply by being...just ourselves!

A huge thank you to the Mentor Police Department for all that you do for our wonderful community!
